A friend of mine passed along to me a great recipe for an all natural insect repellent.  And what better place to use insect repellent than Maine in springtime.  By the coast, we usually don’t have a big black fly population like the more forested areas, but we do have mosquitos.  Lots and lots of those blood sucking little buggers.

According to my friend, the recipe comes from Maine author and blogger, Amanda Blake Soule.  If you are interested in homesteading or rural life or family creativity, you really need to check out her awesome blog.

Natural Insect Repellent

3 1/2 ounces of witch hazel

1/2 – 1 teaspoon lemongrass oil

1/2 – 1 teaspoon eucalyptus oil

1/2 – 1 teaspoon citronella oil

Combine all ingredients and pour into a small spray bottle.  Shake before each use.
